A DCC operated 00 gauge garden
railway still under construction, built by Simon
Reynolds. Track on the layout is mostly modern hornby
with all Peco points, using the largest radius when
ever possible, and is currently held down by various
manufacturers track pins. It
is laid on B&Q
smooth face Pre-treated Decking boards. Corners from
18mm Marine ply. Raised beds built to support the
track using Woodblox (www.woodblocx.co.uk)
There are no plans to ballast it yet but
you never know!
The layout is Controlled by MRC
Prodigy Advance DCC system and Gaugemaster dual
Analogue system (separately connected depending on
what the operator wants to run) Simon is currently in
the process of updating to later Bachmann, New Hornby
and Heljan models. Chips being fitted are varied but
mostly Bachmann EZ command 4 function (actually a Lenz
1014), great deal done for simon by Shrewsbury
Model Centre.

Buildings are a Mixture of
Skaledale, Scenix, Knightwing and Pikestuff. The
rolling stock is various and ever changing. Track base
wiring is 2mm speaker cable. (low voltage low
resistance) The track is soldered into sections at the
fish plates, each section has its own power feed. No
isolation is required as it's dcc. The suspension
bridge on the layout is home made and not quite right
yet. Built from various ally sections and steel cable.
Epoxy glued together. Arch bridge from SGB model

details I look
forward to seeing more updates on this layout. And some
more pictures.......
What more can you ask for on a summer
weekend? Inviting your friends around one sunny
afternoon in the garden, be it other railway
enthusiasts, or friends and family, the enjoyment of
seeing a 1:76 scale model of the "Flying Scotsman",
or a modern diesel locomotive hauling 40 odd coal wagons
around the garden gives people a sense of fascination.
Not only is it great for the viewer, but the owner
finally gets to run his scale length trains, over real
inclines, through cuttings & tunnels, and into scale
length platforms. |
